“When Mike and I settled into our home in the woods, we truly fell in love with not only Weston, but the surrounding towns. This is a sleepy place sometimes, so Westonites set our roots in the towns around us as well! I feel confident that I can provide insight and perspective that will serve our district well in Hartford.”

Meet Sam

Sam is currently serving her third term as First Selectwoman in Weston, where she lives with her husband, Mike, and their two teenage boys, Finn and Gavin. As First Selectwoman, Sam has worked collaboratively with all the towns in the 26th District through the Western Council of Governments (WESTCOG), building a keen understanding of their shared strengths and concerns, as well as their unique needs.

Sam found her way to public office in 2017, first serving on Weston’s Board of Education, then as Selectwoman. Since 2021, she has served the town as First Selectwoman. During her time as First Selectwoman, Sam has brought over $36million in grants to the Town; the grants Sam has helped acquire and administer have allowed Weston to realize long imagined projects throughout Town. These projects have included necessary improvements to facilities for Weston Police and Fire personnel, modernized emergency communications systems, solar energy projects which are defraying the cost of energy for town facilities, as well as amenities like new sidewalks in the center of town, and community pickleball courts. In the process of earning and administering these grants, Sam formed deep relationships with State leadership across departments. She has also initiated and undertaken the largest road paving and maintenance project in Weston’s history, addressing long neglected roadways, and she has seen through public/private partnerships that resulted in the new Weston Dog Park and the Offutt Center at Lachat Town Farm.

Prior to taking office at First Selectwoman and following college at Cornell University, Sam worked for a number of years in publishing, ultimately writing two books of her own. She worked in communications with business and non-profit clients, eventually starting her own business. Sam says, “As much as I loved what I was doing for work, I found my way to public office in 2017 and I knew that I had finally ended up where I belonged.”

Sam is a proud graduate of The Campaign School at Yale
